The Eikaas Gallery

About the exhibition

Whereas Ludvig Eikaas (1920–2010) was a maximalist, Oddleiv Apneseth (1952-) is a sober realist. Eikaas knew no boundaries in his use of material. Plastic, styrofoam, bronze, painting, postcards and print were all worthy of an artistic handling. Apneseth sticks to photography, but experiments with format, light and composition, among other things. His photographies range from the staged to spontaneous documentation. The two artists still have several meeting points in their depictions of Jølster and their immediate area.

In this exhibition, the Eikaas gallery presents four new works of Oddleiv Apneseth from the large municipality of Sunnfjord. The merging of the old municipalities Jølster, Førde, Naustdal and Gaular took place on the 1st of January 2020. Where the Jølster 2008-project dealt with the population of a municipality, the new pictures depict some of the inhabitants of the four old municipalities. Eikaas' diverse works and Apneseth's project Jølster 2008 create a rich backdrop for these present day depictions.
