Millstone Park (Kvernsteinsparken) is an open air museum in which you can explore traces of extensive masonry industry dating back to the 8th century.

The park is staffed throughout the summer, and offers tours and a café, as well as a number of enjoyable events and experiences for the entire family.

Millstone Park (Kvernsteinsparken) is beautifully situated within a short walking distance from the municipality centre of Hyllestad. Explore the unique cultural heritage site, and learn more about a large production of hand querns, millstones and stone crosses dating back to the Viking age. Millstone Park offers picturesque paths and wooden buildings, including a smithy, kiln, assembly house, reception, a small shop and a café. Guided tours are offered Tuesday - Sunday during the summer season (medio June - medio August).

Tuesday - Sunday 11am–5pm
Guided tours and entry to the museum buildings is only available within opening hours. The open air museum is available for visitors year-round.

  • Children aged 0-17: Free
  • Students/seniors: 100 NOK
  • Museum pass: 240 NOK
  • Groups (min 15 pax) *: Min 1500 NOK (100 NOK pr pers)

Café

We offer a basic café with coffee and svele (pancakes) during the summer season.

Gift shop

During summer season, we have a small gift shop which offers a selection of high quality local products.

Parking

The Millstone Park offers free parking.

Accessibility

The area around the parking lot and main buildings is relatively flat, connected by gravel roads. Parts of the Stone Mason Path and buildings are also accessible for visitors with mobility issues. The quarry has trails which are not suitable for strollers or wheelchair users. The park does not have accessibility restrooms.
