Our collection is an important part of the cultural heritage of Sogn. It forms the basis for research, preservation efforts, and exhibitions. Objects have been collected for The Heiberg Collection since the founder, Gjert Falck Heiberg, began gathering agricultural items from Sogn and tools from across Norway in the years around 1900. This collection would prove to be both the start of a lifetime of collecting and the foundation of a folk museum in Sogn. Heiberg’s museum began as a private collection, but in 1909, he transferred it to the newly established Historical Society for Sogn. At that time, the collection included, among other things, 3,000 objects, a house, and a runestone. Since then, much has happened, both in terms of collecting, researching, and preserving the collection.
