The Collection at De Heibergske Samlinger

The collection of De Heibergske Samlinger - Sogn Folkemuseum includes approximately 50,000 objects, of which 28,000 are catalogued. A significant portion of the collection consists of pre-industrial agricultural and craft tools. In addition, the museum holds a large collection of objects related to houses, homes, and personal use, spanning from the Middle Ages to the present day. Many of our objects can be found on Digitalt Museum:

Our collection database has gone through over a hundred years of new procedures, technologies, and digital databases, and formatting has not always transitioned smoothly during these changes. We aim to make as much of our collection available as possible, but occasionally, there may be typos or formatting errors in the catalog texts. We are constantly working to ensure the quality of the content without having to unpublish the collection. If something is unclear, feel free to contact us at dhs@misf.no.

What are we collecting now? The Heiberg Collection primarily documents building and housing customs, private life, clothing traditions, and craft and artisanal traditions in outer, central, and inner Sogn from the 19th to the 20th century, with a focus on the period before the Industrial Revolution. Future collection efforts aim to ensure representation in the collection, with new acquisitions focusing on this goal. We want the collection to reflect the diversity of the population in Sogn throughout history. Additionally, we aim to complete the folk costume and bunad collection for men, women, and children.
