Nordfjord boat exhibition

Stad Holvikejekta

The Nordfjord boat exhibition on the mezzanine shows three traditional boats of different sizes: a faering, a "firkeiping" (four pairs of oars) and a "femkeiping" (five pairs of oars).

The exhibition lets you learn about the Nordfjord boat, as well the boat-building village of Sørstranda in Gloppen. There are also historical photographs and documentary drawings of Nordfjord boats by boat historian Bernhard Færøyvik.

The exhibition features many historical photographs of boats in use, and you can see, among other things, a "femkjeiping" - a boat with five pairs of oars.

The exhibition overlooks the small boat harbor at Sandane, where the contrast between our older boats and new boats is big.

The exhibition hall will let you examine the Nordfjord boat up close. Here illustrated by architect Ola Sendstad’s drawings.

The website will be updated with new pictures and more information as the exhibition is completed.
