Nordfjord Museum of Cultural History
At Nordfjord Folkemuseum you will be taken on a journey into how people have lived in Nordfjord from the 17th century to the present day. The museum has 44 historical buildings from all over the region, which have been brought to Sandane. You can go on a journey of discovery in the open-air museum on your own, or with a guide. We have many activities both indoors and outdoors, suitable for young and old. Join a nature trail, try out traditional handicraft techniques, and you can test how to card and spin wool with a hand reel and spinning wheel.
During the summer season, guided tours are included in the entrance ticket. From June 23rd to August 31st, there are daily guided tours of the open-air museum.
The café offers both svelte and ice cream, as well as coffee and soft drinks, all summer long. The café and museum shop follow the museum's opening hours, and you can visit them without buying an entrance ticket.
The museum has three rooms that display exhibitions. A permanent exhibition (Attåt), a temporary exhibition (Saman) and a room that is used for educational activities and displays models related to building practices and hydropower.
This year's temporary exhibition is "Saman", and shows how we humans have lived together, and how this has changed from the old farming community to the present day. The exhibition opened in February 2025, and will remain until 2027.
Holvikejekta
In June 2025, the new conservation and information building for Holvikejekta opened, which will be open from May 1 to September 30. Nordfjord Folkemuseum and Holvikejekta have a joint entrance ticket, and during the period Holvikejekta is open, you get free admission to it when you purchase an entrance ticket at Nordfjord Folkemuseum.
