Celebrate the Christmas season with Sunnfjord Museum!
Join in a day of Christmas spirit as we invite you to visit traditionally-decorated historic homes and join in making Christmas crafts.
Two of our historic buildings, the Østenstad cabin and the tenant farmer's cabin, are decorated for Christmas. These cabins provide a peak at what a typical Christmas Eve in Sunnfjord might have looked like in the 1800s.
There will be a guided tour at 2pm where you can learn more about Christmas customs and traditions practiced in the old peasant society. The cabins will otherwise be open for viewing with plexiglass screens during opening hours, but in order to enter the homes you will need to join the tour with a guide.
Event program
Halbrend Cabin: Reception and tickets. Museum store with unique products. We will also have antique copies of the local Christmas publication "Jul i Sunnfjord" for sale. Seating is available in the Halbrend Cabin - relax with a cup of coffee and a waffle.
2pm: Tour of the museum site, with visits to the Østenstad cabin and tenant farmer's cabin to learn about Christmas in the old peasant society. The tour will take about an hour. Meet at the Østenstad cabin (look for the sign).
Huus Cabin: Here you will find supplies for making decorations, holiday cards, and for needlefelting. Drawing supplies and board games will also be available.
Scavenger hung in the museum grounds: Pick up a form in the reception and follow the scavenger hunt posts to solve a puzzle.
Due to renovations in our visitor center, the reception and museum store will be relocated to Halbrendhuset, a white cabin near the visitor center (look for signs). You can also purchase coffee and waffles in the Halbrend cabin, and we will be serving gløgg (a hot Christmas beverage) and gingerbread.
Bathrooms are located next to Halbrendhuset.
