Accessibility
The main door to the visitor center is push-button activated and has a level entrance. The visitor center does not have an elevator, but visitors who use wheelchairs or walkers can access the exhibit hall on the second floor by following the road around the back of the building to the entrance which leads directly into the second floor.
The open-air museum has a gravel road, with varying accessibility.
The most accessible historic building on the museum grounds is Movika Country Store and Shoemaker's Workshop (the Yellow House). This building is equipped with a ramp entrance. It is also designed to be a sensory-rich interactive exhibit, and is furnished with deaccessioned artefacts which guests can touch, as well as good lighting and exhibit texts in braille (Norwegian-only at this time). The picnic table outside this house is designed so that visitors who use wheelchairs can sit at it.
There is limited access for visitors with reduced mobility in the other historic buildings, but we can facilitate access in the Østenstad Cabin and the Schoolhouse.
Please contact us in advance to arrange a visit tailored to your mobility and experiential needs.
