Traditional Midsummer Day celebration

Time of event
Stad Sunnfjord museum

Want to experience a traditional Midsummer Day celebration? Join us and out local community on the longest day of the year.

As in many other countries, Midsummer Day, Jonsok or St. Hans in Norwegian, has a long tradition in Norway and is still celebrated all over the country. In addition to a traditional bonfire (hopefully), we also have a mock wedding, an old tradition still alive in Western Norway.

Jonsokbryllup.
Mock weddings are an old tradition in Norway, and are also found around Europe.

The Midsummer Day celebration start at 5PM. The Mock wedding will start at 6 PM.

You can buy tickets when you arrive or online.

You can buy home made cakes, coffea and tea, and there will be warm barbeques. Bring your own food if you want to barbeque. There will also be games and other activities in the open air museum.

At the end of the night, you can pick 7 different flowers to put under your pillow. Folk tradition say you will have a dream about who you will marry.
