Om museumstilbodet

Welcome to Sunnfjord Museum! We are open all year round. Throughout the year we have alternation exhibitions and a museum shop. During the summer season we offer individual tours in the open air museum.

At Sunnfjord Museum you can learn about life in the inner Sunnfjord villages. We have 32 historical buildings, carefully arranged to represent a traditional bipartitioned farmstead, a cotter homestead and a shieling. We also have an old schoolhouse and several other buildings. Our collection of historical objects is diverse, spanning hundreds of years. There is also an extensive collection of photographs.

Sunnfjord Museum opened in Førde in 1926, and was relocated to Movika in the 1950s

Things to do and experience

We are open year-round and offer events and activities through both summer and winter. During summer, many of our historical buildings are open to the public, and we offer individual and customised tours for visitors in both English and Norwegian. We also have several themed walking trails that start from the museum area.

Alternating exhibitions and gift shop

Our goal is to offer three alternating exhibitions each year, with some produced locally and some visiting from elsewhere. During the 2022 summer season you will be able to see the LEISURE TIME exhibition, about the evolution of leisure time and activities in Sunnfjord the last 100-150 years. Our main building has a gift shop with a selection of cultural history books, gifts, traditional toys and handicraft. We also sell coffee, ice cream and snacks. The gift shop follows museum opening hours.
