Reconstruktion of Hemrebui

This sleeping cabin comes from Nordeide, in Høyanger Municipality and has also been referred to as the Nordeide Cabin. It is built on two levels.

We are working on the reconstruction of Hemrebui, a sleeping cabin that was previously located at the old museum site in Amla. Hemrebui is protected under the Norwegian Cultural Heritage Act. It has been stored in a warehouse for an extended period, awaiting the process we have now initiated.

The cabin has a long history, both at the museum and prior to being part of our collection and has therefore been relocated several times before. The process we are currently working on, involves both reconstruction and restoration simultaneously. As the cabin is being reassembled, the craftsmen are continuously assessing its condition, making decisions about repairs, necessary replacements of building components, and more. This work is carried out with the highest possible degree of authenticity, both in terms of using the correct tools and methods, as well as the materials used for necessary repairs.

Since Hemrebui is a protected structure, the work is being done in close dialogue with national heritage authorities and the county municipality, to ensure that the process is carried out properly and to achieve a high-quality result.
